Have you ever found yourself in this situation?

It’s a moment we all face. That moment when we realize it’s time to take control of our weight. Whether it’s while we’re looking in the mirror or standing on the scale, the realization hits us.

The immediate thought is often to go on a ‘diet’, but just as quickly as that thought enters our minds, the memories of past failed diets flood back… along with all the frustration.

At that point, we may ask ourselves, “What’s the use?

We know the weight will come back, just like it always has. And then we’ll find ourselves back in front of the mirror, feeling discouraged all over again.

But here’s the thing: the answer isn’t to go on another diet.

The answer is to create a vision and make it a priority.

Creating a Vision: What exactly do you want to achieve? If it’s weight loss, how much weight do you want to lose? What size do you want to be when you reach your goal? Can you imagine what you’ll look and feel like? Take some time to clearly visualize what you want to achieve. This is your vision.

Making it a Priority: Having a vision is great, but unless you make it a priority, it will fade away. Embrace simple, small changes that will add up to big improvements in your lifestyle. Starting small allows you to stick with it and build upon your success. Here are the main areas for change:

Your Diet: Let’s be honest, most of the foods we eat aren’t the healthiest. Some are downright terrible (like the burger and fries from last weekend), while others are just excessive (like the snacks we eat while watching TV).

The solution to cleaning up our daily diet isn’t to go back on a ‘diet’. In fact, I never want you to go on a ‘diet’ again. Instead, I want you to make permanent, healthy changes to your eating habits. Here are some practical examples:

  • Choose salad over chips or fries.
  • Don’t add butter to your food.
  • Eat fresh produce with every meal.
  • Limit desserts to once a week.
  • Cut out mindless snacking.
  • Drink water instead of soda.

I don’t expect you to eat a perfect diet every day of the week – that would be very difficult. However, you should aim to make more healthy choices every day than unhealthy ones.

Your Exercise Routine: Exercise is a crucial component of a healthy lifestyle, and let’s face it, most of us aren’t getting enough of it. How often does an entire week go by without us lacing up our tennis shoes?

Your new healthy lifestyle means exercising most days of the week. This may seem challenging, but I have the perfect solution – my boot camp sessions were created for busy people just like you who only have so much time to dedicate to exercise.
